Through ACM’s partnership with the Developer Academic Alliance (Developer AA), ACM Student Members receive free and unlimited access to 100+ software packages. ACM Student Members also have access to the Developer AA Public Forum, a place where users can ask questions about a range of topics including software availability, installation, available resources, and more. Software available through this program includes: Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2005 Team System, SQL Server 2005, Virtual PC 2007, Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition and so much more!

SunLogo Sun Academic Initiative eLearning Portal

The Sun Academic Initiative eLearning Portal represents part of Sun’s dedication to community development. ACM’s partnership with Sun allows ACM Student Members to receive full complimentary access to courseware. The course offerings are distinct from those found in ACM’s SkillSoft online course program, so our Student Members can access learning opportunities that are not available elsewhere. Some of the courses available include: Java Technology eLibrary, Interpersonal Communications: The Process, Sun N1 System Management eLibrary, Project Management Fundamentals, Web Development eLibrary, Setting the Stage for IT Success, Strategic Decision Making, and much, much more.

CALogo CA Academic Initiative

CA has joined with ACM to bring ACM Student Members exceptional resources as a part of the CA Academic Initiative. All ACM Student Members can take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity, which includes access to complimentary CA software.

A key product within the CA Academic Initiative is the CA ERwin Data Modeler Community Edition. It is an entry-level data modeling tool that is a subset of CA’s flagship CA ERwin Data Modeler product. It is a great way for students and those new to modeling to get started with an industry-leading data modeling tool.

Google Summer of Code 2009

Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global program that offers student developers stipends to write code for various open source projects. Google will be working with several open source, free software, and technology-related groups to identify and fund several projects over a three month period. Historically, the program has brought together nearly 2,500 students with over 180 open source projects to create millions of lines of code. The program, which kicked off in 2005, is now in its fifth year. If you are feeling nostalgic or are interested in learning more about the projects we have worked with in the past, check out the 2006, 2007 and 2008 program pages.

While the majority of past student participants were enrolled in university Computer Science and Computer Engineering programs, GSoCers come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds, from computational biology to mining engineering. Many of our past participants had never participated in an open source project before GSoC; others used the GSoC stipend as an opportunity to concentrate fully on their existing open source coding activities over the summer. Many of our “graduates” have later become program mentors.

Imagine CUP : MICROSOFT

In 2009, the Imagine Cup challenges the world’s most talented students to “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems facing us today.” Some might use technology to help a brother or sister get an education. Or find entirely new approaches for medicine.  Or discover ways to counter the inequalities that exist between genders around the world.  These students might ensure the sustainability of our planet or help deliver universal primary education.  Yeah, it’s that important.

The United Nations has identified some of the hardest challenges in the world today in its Millennium Goals. This year the Imagine Cup uses these ambitious challenges as a guiding light to inspire change all over the world. Learn more about the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
